Description
Stainsby Mill (Hardwick Estate).

Stainsby Mill lies on the edge of the Hardwick Estate. There has been a mill on the site since the 13th Century providing flour to the local villages and later to Hardwick Hall.

The present corn mill was substantially restored in 1850 and supplied flour locally until 1952. It is water-powered with a 17 ft. high wheel being driven by a stream flowing from the mill pond and its design allows just one person to operate it. The mill is open to the public on specific days throughout the year and after watching the process of grinding the corn, visitors can purchase the flour.
